Former mayor of Novato, Michael DiGiorgio, passed away this weekend.  He was 73.

The Marin Independent Journal reports DiGiorgio died of leukemia on Sunday.

"Mike was a pillar of the community," Michael Frank, Novato's city manager, told the newspaper.  "He was very involved in Leadership Novato and acted as a friend and mentor to many. He was always respectful and friendly, even when you disagreed. He was a true public servant."

DiGiorgio will be remembered at a memorial service at City Hall on May 5, according to Marin IJ.

Mike was a good guy. Always wanted to do good for Novato. Was on so many commissions and committees, yet was never afraid to get out and get his hands dirty cleaning up after some public event or another. A real small town community leader. We'll really miss his humor too.
