Tessin was born in St. James, Minnesota on August 24, 1928 to parents Frank Tessin Sr. and Onna Hagen Tessin and raised in Milbank, South Dakota and Spokane, Washington.
He graduated from North Central High School where he played basketball, obtained his pilot's license and originated the high school Saturday Night Dance Party broadcasts at KXOY radio. At Washington State University he played basketball, participated in Air ROTC and was the News Bureau Manager for KWCS.
Moving to San Francisco with a journalism degree, he took a job with Pan Am in public relations. A year later he was called into service as a Personal Affairs Officer for the Air Defense Command in Colorado Springs. There he met Lt. Evelyn Fielder on July 21st, became engaged on September 7th and married on November 29th.
Frank and Evelyn would have celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary this year. Capt. Tessin retired from the service and returned to San Francisco to work in broadcasting at AM Radio Sales, Golden West Broadcasting and Major Market Radio Sales. His stations carried the Giants, 49ers and Cal cementing his involvement and love for Bay Area sports teams. Frank and Evelyn raised two children while living Kentfield.
Frank was active as a coach and sports booster. He left the broadcast business during the late 1970's and worked for RCA and the DMV. He served on the Kentfield Fire Protection District Board of Directors from 1980 to 2003. Frank and Evelyn moved to Novato to be close to family and attend their grandchildren's school and sporting events. They have also been 49er season ticket holders since the "Kezar days".
Frank is survived by his wife Evelyn; daughter Kathryn Cosenza (John), grandchildren Philip, Emily, Tess; son Michael Tessin (Maggie), grandchildren Angela and Eric. Frank was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a loyal and supportive friend, served his country and community with pride and found a reason to smile each day.
A celebration of life will be held on November 8th, 11:30am to 3:30pm at Unity in Marin, Main Chapel, 600 Palm Dr., Hamilton Center, Novato.
