San Marin Sophomores Take Home Top Essay Awards

San Marin sophomores won first and third place in the Rotary Club of Novato Sunrise’s annual Laws of Life essay contest at an award ceremony at the Hill Education Center on April 30.  Over 350 entries were submitted in the high school and middle school categories. Allison Day captured first place with her essay entitled “Home Is Where the Heart Is”, taking home a check for $300.  Victoria Malatesta won third place and fellow San Marin sophomores Kelly Yelapi, Kathryn Ruberto, and Zane Jackson won Honorable Mentions.

Scott MacLeod and Lauran Wolfe, teachers of the winners, and Principal Adam Littlefield cheered on their students at the awards ceremony.  MacLeod said, “I’m so proud of these kids.  They have so much to say when they think deeply and reflect on their own lives.”

Paul Kingsman, 1988 Olympic Bronze medalist in swimming, was the keynote speaker, inspiring the audience with the lessons he learned about hard work and perseverance while training for the Olympics.
