'Official' Groundbreaking for San Ramon Elementary School's Multipurpose Room

San Ramon Elementary School to get its long-awaited multipurpose room.

San Ramon Elementary School officially ‘broke ground’ on Friday, September 7, for its new multipurpose room.  This ceremony took place during the school’s ‘community time’ allowing parents, students and staff to attend.  This commemorates many patient years that the staff, parents and students have been waiting for a multipurpose room.

Karen Maloney, NUSD Chief Financial Officer, Pam Conklin, Director of Human Resources, NUSD Trustees Ross Millerick, Derek Knell and Debbie Butler, along with former San Ramon principal, Mary Pritchard, and current principal, Andy Cline, were on hand to officiate the event.

The groundbreaking of a multipurpose room has been long in the making.  Ross Millerick spoke of his daughter, who is now 30, attending San Ramon Elementary School and needing to use another school’s multipurpose room for their talent shows and plays.  He expressed his excitement and looks forward to attending events at the new facility.

Mary Pritchard, former principal at San Ramon and whose granddaughter is a Kindergartener at San Ramon this year, spoke of the time her own children attended San Ramon.  She wore a sweatshirt that read “Friends of San Ramon” representing a grass roots effort years ago to raise money for the facility.

GCCI, Inc. was awarded the contract for $1,874,000 on June 19, 2012, and it is projected to be completed in May 2013.  The project is eligible for a construction grant utilizing “new construction” statefunds. It is projected that the district could receive $796,588 in state matching funds. Unfortunately, the state does not have adequate funds at this time to fund overall state construction projects, and the San Ramon project was placed on the “unfunded” list on February 22, 2012. This provides the district a place in line for funding when state funding becomes available.
