Cadets Celebrate Great Year at Great America

The trip wouldn't have happened without the contribution of the Novato Republican Women Federated.

The U.S. Air Force Junior ROTC cadets from went to California's Great America to celebrate receiving “The Distinguished Unit with Merit Award” from the national JROTC evaluation team. Great America, located in Santa Clara, is one of the four major amusement parks in the Bay Area.

JROTC cadets worked extremely hard to earn the award by running a 100 person cadet corps, or student-led company, accomplish all their many tasks throughout the year to include 1,500 hours of community service, competing in the regional marching competition, and running the organization.  The cadets learn valuable business skills by typing letters, giving speeches, and leading their teams.

The trip wouldn’t have happened without the contribution of Ms. Mary Raub and Ms. Susan Miller of the Novato Republican Women Federated (NRWF).  The NRWF paid for the tickets for the "Hornet Squadron" members, who are middle school students mentored by high school cadets.  The NRWF also donated money for the JROTC to host their open house that unveiled their new learning center facility at Novato High.

Interested students can contact Mr. Hiroshi "Yoshi" Yamaguchi at 415-314-5429 or email HYamaguchi@NUSD.org to set up a tour of the program.  Students should enroll as soon as possible because the JROTC has only 17 slots remaining.
