Planning Permits and Services Website Gets Makeover

San Rafael, CA – A redesigned Marin County Current Planning Section website, set for release Oct. 9, includes new features that make it easier to stay up to date on planning issues in unincorporated areas of the Marin County.

Residents may subscribe to pages and keep informed about development that may occur in their neighborhood through e-mailed notices from the County. Individual project pages will include proposed plans and public notices. Not only will more information be made available about specific projects, but the website will allow residents to find zoning information about their properties. For those considering their own projects, planning policies and regulations will be easier to find and download.

“The new web page represents a significant step the department is taking to provide information online to our customers and make our operations more sustainable by reducing the use of paper,” said Planning Manager Jeremy Tejirian.

Recent estimates show that the Planning Division copies more than 110,000 sheets of paper in an average year on individual project applications alone. Even though a portion of the paper is recycled, it translates into approximately five mature trees being cut down and an equivalent of 1.3 tons of carbon dioxide being released into the atmosphere, not to mention the environmental effects of the ink. By replacing those copies with online documents, the Planning Division will reduce both costs and environmental impacts.

Changes to the Current Planning Section’s website will only be a first step, followed closely by updates to the rest of the Community Development Agency’s website. To see the redesigned Current Planning website, visit http://www.marincounty.org/current-planning on Oct. 9 or thereafter.
