Free Entry to Regional Parks during Holidays

Visiting Marin County Parks is even better when it’s free. With school out for the holiday break, the family is together … it’s the perfect time to get outdoors.

To thank the citizens of Marin for their support and to encourage those individuals and families who may not normally visit county parks where entry and/or parking fees are charged, Marin County Parks will waive those fees from Dec. 20 through Jan. 5 at  McNears Beach in San Rafael, Paradise Beach in Tiburon and Stafford Lake in Novato.

This is a great opportunity to explore parks you and your family haven’t visited or haven’t seen in a while. All three offer great spots for fishing, bird watching, kite flying or a cold-weather picnic (bring hot chocolate and fire up the barbecue for a warm lunch). At McNears and Paradise, you can kayak, paddleboard and canoe in the bay. You can even take a polar-bear dip on New Year’s Day if you dare. At Stafford Lake, try out the renowned disc golf course or hike the little-known Stafford Lake Trail.

In addition, you’ll get free entrance to two fun events: Learn to salt-water fish at Paradise on Dec. 27, and the Icebreaker Stand Up Paddle Board Races at McNears on Jan. 4.
