Olive Oil Sale Benefits Nonprofit Gilead House

Note to olive oil enthusiasts: The time is ripe to get a bottle of this special harvest because they're going fast.

What brings a dedicated group of volunteers together in chilly temperatures and driving rain? Ask those who gathered in Yountville last November with buckets, boots, and full hearts to harvest olives for a popular annual fundraiser benefiting Novato based Gilead House.

Gilead House, a nonprofit transitional residence for women and children in need in Novato, just released its limited edition, cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil in 375cl bottles. It is available to the public for a minimum donation of $25 per bottle. All donated proceeds will fund essential programs and services offered at the facility.

This year's unfiltered blend of seven organic Tuscan olive varietals is not your run of the mill olive oil. It has a light gold color and a rich, distinctly buttery taste followed by subdued notes of grass. It's perfect as a simple accompaniment to good quality bread, drizzled on roasted vegetables, or as a base for a healthful, homemade vinaigrette dressing.

Last year, Marin Magazine gave the 2012 release an Editor's Choice award for its superb flavor. Those who have tasted the 2013 batch say it scores even higher in "yum" factor.

If you're an olive oil aficionado, the time is ripe to get a bottle of this special harvest. But don't wait. They're going fast!
