Questions on Redistricting
Marin is analyzing new census data and determining reallocation needs of the five supervisorial districts.
I received some questions on redistricting. Here is the information:
To clarify, The Redistricting Commission is charged with drawing the boundaries of California’s Congressional, Senate, Assembly and Board of Equalization electoral districts. In California Counties, the Board of Supervisors is responsible for redrawing supervisorial district boundaries. In other local jurisdictions, cities and special districts, that have district representatives, either the governing body or a specially-formed commission redraws the district lines. A couple of good resources to learn more about redistricting include: www.redistrictingca.org and http://wedrawthelines.ca.gov.
The Marin County Administrator’s office is analyzing the 2010 census data and working to determine needed reallocation of population for Marin County’s five supervisorial districts and developing possible options for adjustment, in conformance with state and federal regulations. There will be several public hearings throughout the process. I will post a separate blog about the County process when I have more information to share.
