Local Talent Stars in Jan. 18 Marin Project Concert

A range of local talent takes the stage in a Jan. 18 concert from The Marin Project, an effort involving jazz, pop, and opera performers at the Showcase Theater at Marin Center.

The concert and the Marin Project album recorded at San Rafael's TRI Studios feature classic songs such as “Cast Your Fate to the Wind” by San Francisco jazz pianist Vince Guaraldi and “Time is Tight” by R&B legend Booker T. Jones.

The concert event opens with a reception and includes a silent and live auction. Tickets are available now at the Marin Center Box Office; profits benefit Homeward Bound of Marin.

Composer and guitarist Anastasi Mavrides led two dozen top Bay Area musicians in recording the album. The concert features Mill Valley-based pianist MaryLiz Smith and opera singer Susan Gundunas, who has performed with Novato Theater Company as well as San Francisco Opera and in Europe.

The CD is sold online at www.themarinproject.com, at Homeward Bound of Marin headquarters, and by local vendors including Woodlands Markets, Whole Foods Markets in Novato and San Rafael and The Magic Flute.

John Liviakis of Kentfield, founder and chairman of Liviakis Financial Communications, conceived the album as a compilation with wide appeal that would not only help end homelessness but provide a memorable musical experience. The concert, he promises, will be a one-of-a-kind evening to kick off 2014 for music lovers.
