Learn About Blu Homes, Oma Village in Dec. 7 Factory Tour

The factory that built the Pacific Fleet is getting ready to build Oma Village in Novato -- find out more on Dec. 7 with a special holiday tour.

The factory once built the Pacific Fleet -- now it will be used to build Oma Village, Homeward Bound's innovative new family housing program in Novato.

A unique tour offered by Blu Homes from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at their Vallejo factory will introduce guests to the leading-edge technology that will be used to build the 14 homes of Oma Village at 5394 Nave Drive.

Homeward Bound of Marin is partnering with Blu Homes to develop the community of rental homes for families transitioning out of homelessness. For every guest at Saturday’s tour who mentions Homeward Bound, the company will donate $50 to support Oma Village.

Guests who tour the Mare Island factory can speak with Blu Homes architects, hear CEO Bill Haney and chat with honored guest John Adams, a renowned environmentalist and founder of the Natural Resources Defense Council.

Enjoy wine and holiday nibbles at the free event. Register online at http://tinyurl.com/k7nynax.

The Novato City Council approved plans for Oma Village in July, calling the program “a shining example” of housing to meet the critical needs of low-income families.

Homeward Bound is in the midst of a $5.3 million fundraising campaign for Oma Village, which is forecast to open in 2014. More than $3.5 million has been raised and funds donated before Dec. 31 will receive a dollar-for-dollar match.

Gifts also can be made through a crowdfunding page at Razoo.com or mailed to Homeward Bound/Oma Village, 1385 N. Hamilton Parkway, Novato, CA  94949. For more information, please visit www.hbofm.org.
