Fire Up with Firehouse Chef Marvin Blandon on Feb. 27

Fire up with Marvin Blandon of the Novato Fire Department, named California's Best Firehouse Chef in a "secret ingredient" cooking competition at the 2013 State Fair.

Chef Marv and co-host Chef Rachelle Boucher will join their talents at Fresh Starts Chef Events for a special evening from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, to benefit the Novato Fire Foundation and Homeward Bound of Marin.

Their down-home menu will ignite your love of cooking:
  • Flame-Grilled Pizza with Seasonal Toppings
  • The “Marv” Wedge - Iceberg Lettuce with Bacon, Fennel Fronds and Basil Ranch Dressing
  • Firehouse Favorite Braised Chicken with Lightened-Up Yukon Gold Mashed Potatoes
  • Fire-and-Ice Baked Alaska with Dark Chocolate & Black Cherry
Guests will learn how Chef Marv manages the kitchen to keep the crew fueled at Novato Station 63 and the evolution of the award-winning Novato Fire Chili Co. He and Chef Rachelle will share their tips for cooking around what's in season and what's on sale to put a personal spin on favorite recipes.

Tickets cost $55, including dinner; wine will be available for purchase. Thanks to Whole Foods Market in Novato for supporting this event.

Eight mile was a song by Eminem, not the application line for this job. Sam, you have to at least consider the theory that all of your opposers are not the same person, but that just maybe, more than one person in Novato thinks $400,000 is a bit steep for a fireman.

You forgot to mention that they work less than 10 days/month for those 6-figure salaries and 100%+++ pensions. Most of them have second jobs so they are making bank - never heard of a poor firefighter. Their jobs are important but not 5 to 10X more important than people who work harder, longer and had to have a college degree to do the work they do. It's time for pension reform and a reality check.

Sam does make a good point about voting, but the turnout at the ballots are low so it's hard to figure out what people really think of the local government. Plus the unions are very good at getting their robots.. I mean constituents to turn out and vote.

I'm not the only person who feels this way. I suppose you'll now say I'm also Cynthia/Peter G/Roger/Trailbiker/et al. You do have one thing right, Sam. The warning lights are flashing. We cannot sustain this waste much longer.
