Celebrate Winter on Jan. 24 with Chef Joanne Weir

Meet a PBS-TV chef and James Beard Award winner at this Fresh Starts Chef Events — she'll be fresh from winning this year's TASTE Award for "Best New Series."

Meet PBS-TV Chef Joanne Weir, a James Beard Award-winning cookbook author, to celebrate winter in four courses from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at Fresh Starts Chef Events.

The chef may be showing signs of afterglow from receiving the honors for “Best New Series” in this year’s TASTE Awards, set to be passed out Saturday in a red-carpet ceremony in Los Angeles.

She’ll share recipes from her new show, “Joanne Weir’s Cooking Confidence,” and all guests will receive a copy of her new cookbook by the same title.

Her menu:

  • Crostini with Caramelized Onions, Gorgonzola and Fig Jam
  • Salad of Radicchio, Fennel, Arugula, Blood Oranges, Pine Nuts and Golden Raisins
  • Oven-Roasted Sausages with Riesling and Caramelized Pears and Apples
  • Chocolate Hazelnut Semifreddo

The chef and author last year plunged into the world of restaurants as co-founder of Copita Tequileria y Comida in Sausalito. She’ll draw on her broad experience and love for local ingredients in presenting dishes to warm up any wintry evening.

Tickets are $69, including dinner and a copy of her new cookbook. Wine will be available for purchase.

All classes take place at the Next Key Center, 1385 N. Hamilton Parkway, Novato. Proceeds benefit shelter and job-training programs at Homeward Bound of Marin.
