Cutting Ties

When it's scarf versus scissors, who wins?

Last week, violence broke out at Journey Ford. After the massacre, one rainbow scarf was left in tatters (and not the way trendy scarves are made to look these days). It was — emphasis on WAS — Rebecca Weiner's scarf and she wasn't mourning its loss, she was celebrating.

The cutting of the tie to commemorate a car sales person's first big sale dates back far before hybrids were even a glimmer in an eco-conscious driver's eye. A quick Google search even reveals an entire day in Germany, called Fasching, where women are allowed to cut any man's tie, anywhere, any time. At Journey Ford, it's a little more controlled, though just as revelatory.

Weiner had spent the better part of her month at Journey Ford going through the strict educational courses and requirements Ford maintains. This makes sure its representatives are able to answer all customers' questions, as well as find the best car for every driver. Most of Journey Ford's sales people trail more established product specialists before they're able to - pardon the pun - journey out on their own.

When Rebecca did sell her first car, she realized her mistake. No, it wasn't getting all the signatures or setting up financing options. It was that she was wearing her absolute favorite scarf. (Scarves sub in for ties in some cases of these ceremonies.) "I called my husband and asked him to bring my least favorite scarf as soon as he possibly could," she said. "When he said he didn't know which one it was, I said to just bring every scarf I owned."

There was some screaming, there was some shouting, and there was some snipping. You can actually see it in the video we've got posted. The purpose was to celebrate Rebecca's achievement, and we wish her the best of luck as she continues on her journey. While we can't add a clause that says "No scarves were harmed in the making of this blog," we can say that no further scarves will be snipped as Rebecca continues selling cars - it's first sale only!
