City Council Honors Young Volunteer Gardeners

San Marin students receive proclamation from mayor.

Back in September, San Marin High School student volunteers created a native plant garden at Miwok Park in Novato. They worked with other volunteers from the Novato Streetscape Coalition to create a beautiful garden for the entire community to enjoy.

Recently the students were recognized by the Novato City Council at a council meeting. Mayor Pat Eklund read a proclamation for Outstanding Volunteer Service and students Gabriella Skarka and Isaiah Minor represented the more than 20 students who have participated in the Miwok Park program.

What a great project. The community service requirements at the High Schools make a real difference in the lives of the people and places they help. Thank you students from San Marin High School!

Yes, and thanks to the City Council for honoring them and to the Novato Streetscape commission for supporting San Marin in their endeavor. Such a positive event for the residents of Novato. I applaud you.

Thanks to San Marin science teacher, Dr. Michelle Lafevre-Bernt, aka Dr. L-B, for leading the students on this project. San Marin high science students and Dr. L-B have since been back to Miwok Park for clean up work after the initial installation of the garden; which is another important part of the project.
