Blessing of Animals - Honoring St. Francis of Assisi

In honor of St. Francis of Assisi, lover of all creation, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and School invites pet parents to their ‘Blessing of the Animals’ on Sunday, October 6. The event is free and all members of the community are welcome to attend.

“St. Francis of Assisi is one of the most beloved saints in all of Christendom. His profound faith, witness and service to the poor and, of course, his connection with nature and all animals connects deeply with many people. A ‘Blessing of Animals’ gives thanks and praise to God for the life and witness of St. Francis as well as our pets and the joy and love they offer in our lives,” says Pastor John Beckman. “We will even bless stuffed animals since they hold a special place in children’s hearts and need to be remembered too!”

‘Blessing of the Animals’ is an annual custom held around the world in early fall in honor of St. Francis of Assisi (1182-1226), whose feast day is October 4. ‘Blessing of the Animals’ will take place in the parking lot of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on Sunday, October 6 at 4:00 p.m. All animals are welcome for a blessing. Good Shepherd Lutheran Church is located at 1180 Lynwood Drive in Novato.
