Each month Finnegan's nominates a youth athlete or team that exemplifies hard work and success! Last month we honored the whole San Marin student cheering section for their good spirited cheering and effective antics in helping the Mustangs boys’ hoop squad improve on their slow start to the season. This month Finnegan’s recognizes an individual who is excelling in both the class room and on a smaller stage but possibly headed to a big future.
Eleven year old Lucas Fortune, a student at Sinaloa, has been hitting the books and crushing the ball for the Novato Little League Astros. Sporting a 3.8 GPA putting him on the Saint’s honor roll and batting a hot .714 through the first 6 games of the season puts Lucas in select company. The short stop, pitcher, catcher and outfielder is an all-around type of kid that might be fun to keep on your radar.
Not only is Lucas excelling in his studies and on Novato’s storied little league diamonds, he has also been selected to play for team USA (12U) this summer in the Latin America Baseball Classic. Young Lucas will be traveling to the Dominican Republic with 12 other ballers who were selected from across the United States. As the only player from the entire Northwest, the young Fortune will surely represent our country, our region and the city of Novato well. We wish him luck in his endeavors in both the classroom and on the ball field. Lucas Fortune is our pick this month for "Finnegan's Student Athlete of the Month"!
