Preserving Family Photographs

Photograph conservator Gawain Weaver will discuss the types of photographs found in home collections, including how to identify the various photographic processes and how to use this information to date your old photographs. He'll provide guidance on the care and preservation of photographs including scrapbooks and photo albums. He'll also demonstrate how to do digital restoration using Adobe Photoshop. This is a great opportunity to bring a photograph or family album and have Gawain offer advice on it!

Gawain Weaver received BA degrees in art history and chemistry, and an MA in art history. He interned at many notable institutions including the Getty Museum and the Museum of Modern Art. He completed a two-year fellowship in the Advanced Residency Program in Photograph Conservation at the George Eastman House and Image Permanence Institute in Rochester, New York. He is currently working at a photograph conservator and consultant and teaches photograph preservation at San Jose State University. For those with an interest in learning more about old family photographs this event is not to be missed!
