“One of the greatest films of all time” film critic Roger Ebert once said. The Maltese Falcon was directed by John Huston, his directorial debut and was nominated for three Academy Awards. In addition to this great classic film, after the movie we are honored to share ime with legend, Don Herron. Hammett fans, whether or not they have taken the Dashiell Hammett Walking Tour that Herron has been conducting in San Francisco since 1977, will welcome this extraordinary opportunity. Herron has a deep reservoir of knowledge of the life of the father of the hard-boiled detective genre and will share highlights of his SF tours, including Burritt Street, where a plaque commemorates the first murder in The Maltese Falcon.
The Novato Theater Film Club is a cinema society and your ticket to discovering carefully selected films in our local community. Club members enjoy screenings ranging from traditional classics and documentaries to contemporary foreign and independent films. The screenings will often include a guest speaker(s) who is a local expert in the subject matter or a person who is affiliated with the evening’s film. Each screening will have a nominal donation and include light refreshments. Screening will have limited seating and Club members have advance notice to reserve first. All proceeds from film club events will benefit the Novato Theater, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit public benefit corporation that is leading the rebuilding and operation of the historic downtown Novato Theater.
