Young Americans Outreach Tour Returns to San Marin High

The Young Americans company of 45 staff, singers and dancers present a three-day workshop program filled with music, dance and fun Feb. 14-16 at San Marin High School. The college-age members of the Young Americans are from many countries around the world.

The workshop is aimed at providing an experience that brings every student enjoyment and benefit.  The Workshop is open to all students in third thru 12th grades. It runs for three days, beginning on Thursday, Feb. 14 at 3:30 p.m. The next day, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., is filled with classes, staging and rehearsal exercises. The final day, Feb. 16, runs from 3:30 to 9 p.m. and concludes with the local students performing with the Young Americans on stage in an amazing show for the community. It features the students and their personalities, talents and newly discovered abilities.

The Young Americans’ first act is designed to be the final teaching experience for the workshop. Not only is it a thank you to students and the community, but also its purpose is to reinforce everything that was taught in the previous two workshop days.

The students’ second act opener is a hip-hop/stomp number choreographed by the Young Americans’ alumni, Khalid Freeman, who toured with STOMP and appeared in Step Up and Stomp the Yard motion pictures. Next, is a choral medley of music from some of the greatest classical composers with a fun modern twist. Then we’ll experience a music medley from the motion picture, Across the Universe, based on music of the Beatles. We will then travel thru jazz, Grease, hip-hop and music from Michael Jackson. After a wonderful medley from 12 of the best Disney movies, we will end with a grand finale featuring four songs from THE LION KING, the musical.

Act Two has such a great balance of singing, dancing and acting all in one. Tickets to the show will be sold after the workshop on the first and second days.

The Young Americans stay in families of the communities they visit all over the world. The relationships that are made last a lifetime. Families that host two or more of the Young Americans will receive two free tickets to the show in our VIP seating as a thank you.
