Educating people and keeping kids safe on graduation eve, as well as providing a fun celebration, is what Safe and Sober Grad of Novato High School is all about.
On Sunday, March 17, Safe Grad will be holding its first St. Patrick’s Day 5K/10K Run/Walk to benefit the Graduation Celebration. The run/walk will begin in the parking lot near the Novato YMCA and traverse the old Spanish style U.S. Coast Guard housing at Hamilton.
Upon returning to the hangars, the 5K will be completed and the 10K will continue along the largest wetlands restoration project on the West Coast. The scenery and views will be spectacular.
To participate in the race, the cost is $25 for students, $30 for the 5K and $50 for the 10K. You can also support Safe Grad by advertising on one of our race shirts; sponsoring a kilometer of the run and/or providing water, snacks or raffle prizes at the run. T-shirt ads run $500 for a logo, $250 for a large print of business name and $100 for a smaller business name listing. Also, $100 can buy an ad on one of our kilometer markers along the route. Any support you are able to provide is most appreciated!
Can’t make the run? How about attending the Dine and Donate at Pasta Pomodoro at Vintage Oaks Shopping Center on March 16? That day, 20 percent of your meal, whether it be in house or takeout, will be donated to Safe and Sober Grad of Novato.

The Safe and Sober Grad Night program was developed by the California Highway Patrol in 1985 in response to the large majority of graduating seniors who were celebrating their completion of high school with unsupervised parties where alcohol was being provided and consumed.
Unfortunately, many of these parties resulted in alcohol related crashes, injuries and deaths. In an effort to decrease these incidents, the CHP, along with local volunteers and parents, established an awareness campaign to include fundraisers as well as an education campaign, culminating in a safe and sober all night graduation celebration.
Novato High School has joined high schools across the country as a Safe and Sober Grad Night participant for over 20 years. The committee is comprised of volunteer parents from all grade levels to plan, fundraise and implement a fun filled graduation celebration for all Novato High School graduates the night of graduation.
Safe and Sober Grad of Novato is a 501 (3) (c) organization and monies raised benefit each class at Novato High School. Any money left over at the end of the year is distributed to the remaining classes to assist with their Safe Grad Celebration after their graduation.
