Author Spotlight: Glenn Ferris

Author Glenn Ferris will discuss his book So Far From Home: Early Russians in Early California. This book is an historical account of the journey of the Russian population and its impact and influence in Northern California and the Bay Area. Glenn J. Farris is a retired Senior State Archaeologist for the California Department of Parks and Recreation. By presenting historical documents and first-hand accounts-many recently discovered in Russian naval archives and translated for first time into English-this long awaited reader introduces us to an unique and provocative period. Comprised of a vibrant mix of journal entries, excerpts from novels, government documents, personal correspondence, and cartoons, this collection abounds in remarkable experiences that provide fresh insight into California before the Gold Rush.
