13th Annual El Hogar de los Ninos Nicaragua-Fest
Nicaragua-Fest Only $20 per person
Join El Hogar de los Ninos, a small, grass-roots, non-profit as we celebrate the successes of the Divino Nino School. This pre-school through 6th grade program exists ONLY BECAUSE members of the bay area believe in the power of education for 205 children who live in a neighborhood of Managua that is fraught with poverty, gangs, domestic violence, drug and alcohol abuse. Our Party will include:
Live music by Marin's own, 'Miracle Mule', they play 'honky tonk music with a New Orlean's flare!'
An appetizer and dessert bar 'foodies' will love the traditional and non-tradtional options of gallo pinto, pulled pork, fruit, spicy chicken wings, fruits, an array of dips, salsas, chimichurri, chips and bread to name just a few!
Beer by Moylans brewery, wines by Alderbrook wines Nicaraguan coffee and hibiscus tea
A short presentation about our school in Managua, Nicaragua
A folkloric dance
A silent auction of things you'd love, or love to give to as holiday gifts!
Our goal is to raise the entire school budget of $36,000.00 by January 2014, when the new school year begins.
This budget guarantees school materials for each student, a snack and healthy lunch, a dental hygiene program, instruction, staff salaries, school maintenance, electricity and internet.
The teachers have a wish list:
One computer per class room. (donated computers would be fine!)
A set of text books in language arts and math, in each of the classrooms, $2,700.00
A salary raise of $20.00-$30.00 per month, a cost of approximately $6,000.00-$8,000.00.
Completion of the upstairs safety features (bars on the windows and glass)
