Mayor's Weekly (May 19 – May 25)

Novato's Mayor Eric Lucan shares city news, events and meetings on the horizon, and on occasion a few spontaneous thoughts.

On my Mind
Tomorrow is Memorial Day and while many will be enjoying the extended weekend, the day is one to remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.  The freedom we enjoy is something that should never be taken for granted.  Looking back, we cannot fully comprehend the sacrifices made on our behalf, but the men and women who gave their lives were able to look forward many generations to find purpose and courage.  For that, we say thank you and will always remember.

Around Town
25th Anniversary for Toys for Bob in Novato – On Monday, I visited the offices of Toys for Bob in Hamilton to congratulate the company and founders Paul Reiche and Fred Ford on celebrating their 25th anniversary in Novato.  Toys for Bob are the creators of the extremely popular Skylanders video game and toy franchise.

North Redwood Blvd Streetscape Workshop – Many community members gathered on Thursday to provide feedback on the Redwood Blvd Streetscape.  This was the first workshop and is focused on Redwood Blvd between Delong and San Marin Drive.  The next workshop will be on Monday, June 9th.

Marin Greek Festival – Enjoyed some great food and time with friends on Friday night (and of course, some Greek dancing) at the Marin Greek Festival at the Nativity of Christ Church in Novato.

China Camp Race – We definitely took advantage of the wonderful weather this weekend (and got some exercise), by running in the China Camp 10K and Half Marathon Race.  You can probably guess which distance I ran.

Breaking Ground for the Stafford Lake Bike Park – Saturday was a busy day as I also joined the Friends of Stafford Lake Bike Park and County Parks and Open Space officials for a ground breaking for the upcoming 17 acre bike park at Stafford Lake. Pictures.  For more information, visit www.staffordlakebikepark.com.
