Mayor's Weekly (Apr 28 – May 4)

Novato's Mayor Eric Lucan shares city news, events and meetings on the horizon, and on occasion a few spontaneous thoughts.

On my Mind
The city of Novato and our community were on showcase Saturday.  Early in the day, the new city offices were officially dedicated with several community members and a few former mayors on hand to witness the event.  Afterwards, the offices were open for the whole community with several tours taking place throughout the day.  Various city departments hosted booths in the lobby and plaza.  Parks and Recreation had several activites to enjoy, the general plan team was out engaging with residents, and the maintenance crew had their street sweeper on display.  The Novato Police department joined in the festivities throughout the day with a bicycle rodeo for kids, helmet giveaways, and their K-9 unit.

The main event on Saturday was the Annual Tour of Novato and Community Fair benefitting the students and school of Novato.  It was great to see so many families out enjoying the day and supporting our schools.  Special thanks to Dale Kline, School Fuel Board Member and Tour of Novato organizer.  The event raised over $100,000 for our students and schools.  Speaking of our schools, if you haven’t sent in your ballot for Measure A time is running out.  Ballots must be received by this Tuesday, May 6.  If they aren’t already in the mail, you can drop off your ballot at the Social Hall in the United Methodist Church, 1473 S. Novato Blvd., Novato, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m on Tuesday, May 6.

As a graduate of Novato High myself, it wasn’t hard to be a supporter of Measure A.  Seeing so many volunteers and engaged members from the community out in force on Saturday raising money and supporting our schools just strengthened the case for the measure.

I posted some pictures from Saturday here.

PS: On a side note, it was brought to my attention that some of the comments from last weeks blog appear to have disappeared.  Let me know if this still appears to be happening and I can try to reach out to someone at Patch.

Around Town
2014-2022 Housing Element Gets Rolling – I attended the housing element workshop this past Monday (April 28) and things are off to a good start.  Based on the RHNA numbers, we are looking at a small surplus in units for all categories.

Mother’s Matter Benefit Dinner – On Saturday night (May 2), my wife and I attended the annual fundraising event for Gilead House.  Gilead House is a transitional home for single mothers in need located in Novato.  It is always encouraging to be a part of their annual event and learn about the incredible work they are doing in the community.
