Hamilton's Park vs A Large Sports Complex

I have concerns about different projects, which may or may not be beneficial to the residents of Novato in terms of the city's fiscal responsibilities, environmental and social needs for the next ten to twenty years. This includes schools, safety, maintenance, and personnel, all of which are related to taxes and city management.  I also have ideas for solutions. Eleanor Sluis Novato 2013

Hamilton Sports Complex – Traffic and Noise

Like many other residents of Novato, I am concerned about the  proposed sports complex for Hamilton neighborhood. Although no application has been filed, the Novato Community Development Office, has been considering a developer’s proposal to build a large sports complex with a small stadium, health club, baseball diamonds, and soccer fields among other facilities.

As I see it, the sports complex would have significant impact on the Hamilton neighbourhoods.  I will address some of the issues in the next few weeks.  But, for now, I would like to draw your attention to the fact that if built as proposed, the complex will draw local and regional sports teams to the area.  While there is an upside to increasing the recognition of Novato outside of our community, there are numerous down-side issues to the residents of the Hamilton area.  This proposed complex could result in several thousand “guests” and workers flooding the area at any one time.  The plan calls for over 1,700 new parking spaces.  All of the additional cars will result in increased traffic congestion, noise, and pollution. 

This is not what the people of Hamilton expected when they purchased their homes.  This project does not fit the suburban rural area zoning designation of the Hamilton General Plan.  Please see the following article in the Marin IJ for more information about local opposition to this project.

I encourage all to look at the info on the City’s web site and to know that I support the homeowners who want a small park, which fits into the Hamilton Plan.
