You're Invited to a Birthday Party (Ours!)

Novato Patch turns 1 on Wednesday, so stop by Dr. Insomnia's for a little celebration.

It’s hard to believe Novato Patch is turning a year old. When we began this website on Nov. 16, 2010, we had no idea how it would be received by the public. Talk about open arms.

Novato Patch is among the most-read Patch sites in the country, which reveals one thing about our city: You care about staying informed, which means you care about your town.

The spirit of the Patch was, and still is, to create something from the ground up that with the community’s help would grow into a place where people get their news, share their views and publicize all sorts of local events and achievements.

We wanted to make something that would be fun, cutting edge, tell the stories of Novato while incorporating a lot of the technology available in this snap-fast 21st century. We wanted to break the mold of the traditional, one-way communication and provide a spot where information can be freely traded. Indeed, it has become a community forum where conversations take place about the topics important to you, not just what the media decides you ought to know.

We wanted to create a site that was easy enough for the most technically-challenged person to use by commenting on stories, posting events and announcements, sharing photos or sending in news tips to Patch. With a free login and password, you can promote your school fundraiser, praise a job well done, voice your opinion about a controversial subject or chime in with a comment on a news story. You won't get that degree of interactivity from other local media.

We wanted you to tell us what you wanted to see on the site. In the past year, we’ve heard gobs of positive feedback and plenty of contructive criticism. With tweaks, this site is thriving because of you. And don't forget: The door is always open for your suggestions.

To show our appreciation to you, we would like to invite you to join us as we host a birthday party for Novato Patch from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Dr. Insomnia's Coffee and Teas, at the corner of Grant and Reichert avenues in Old Town Novato. Stop by, enjoy some free coffee and meet the editor plus others who make the Novato Patch go. We’ll see you there!

RSVP for this party by commenting on the story!
