VIDEO: Airboat Darting on the Marsh

Just passing by the wetlands at the end of Olive Avenue and this buzzed by. Any idea what this is all about? Share a comment below.

Living on Novato's west side, I don't see airboats every day. Maybe this is a common sight for those of you in Bel Marin Keys, Black Point or other eastern locations. I saw this Wednesday morning along that straightaway near the north end of Olive Avenue and did a double-take, wondering if I'd taken a wrong turn and ended up in the Everglades. Is this a vector control inspector, a duck hunter or ... what? Educate us by adding a comment below.

Definitely NOT a common sight in the Dear Island area! The area is full of nesting birds and is usually serene.

You certainly DON'T see hydrofoils on the marsh! <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrofoil> That's an airbost or fanboat <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airboat> Did you asj them what they were doing?

Thank for the insight. No, didn't talk to them. It was just a little bit loud out there.

Good morning, Yes, Brent, the gentleman you see in the video above is one of our staff at the Marin/Sonoma Mosquito & Vector Control District. He was out yesterday treating areas with a larvicide to control the mosquito larvae. The use the airboat allowed us to reach areas that the helicopter could not access. We use the airboat on a regular basis for surveillance and larvicide applications in both Marin and Sonoma county. Thank you for taking the time to post this video, we hope the public enjoyed watching it.

The note from MSMVCD is from Nizza Sequeira, who handles publicity for vector control. Thanks for noticing this, Nizza, and thanks for setting us straight. Also thanks to Lou Judson for teaching me the difference between an airboat and a hydrofoil.
