Two of Three Stolen Hondas Recovered in Novato

One of the vehicles had crashed into the guardrail on Highway 37 and the male and female occupants fled the scene. Another was left on the shoulder of Highway 101 near Ignacio Boulevard.

The California Highway Patrol recovered three unoccupied Honda Civics on Tuesday that were reported stolen in San Rafael.

The first Honda was recovered after the CHP received a report about a solo-vehicle crash on state Highway 37 east of U.S. Highway 101 around 11:30 p.m., CHP Officer Eric Hohmeister said.

A witness said a black Honda hit a guardrail in the center divider on Highway 37 and the male and female occupants fled into a field south of Highway 37, Hohmeister said. A search for them was unsuccessful. The Honda was running but no keys were in the ignition.

At 1:30 p.m., a CHP officer found a disabled, unoccupied 1994 Honda Civic on the right shoulder of southbound U.S. Highway 101 just south of Ignacio Boulevard. The driver's side window was down and the ignition was in the "on" position, Hohmeister said. The officer determined the Honda was reported stolen Tuesday to San Rafael police.
