Oma Village Development Back on the Table

Oma Village in Hamilton wants to build 14 one and two-bedroom units for residents considered "very low-income."

On Tuesday, the Novato City Council will decide whether to amend zoning codes to allow the construction of a 14-unit apartment complex in Hamilton that would be home for low income families.

The development is called Oma Village and is a project of Homeward Bound of Marin, an organization that builds housing for the formerly homeless and runs the only homeless shelter in the county.

The plan, which has already been approved by the Design Review Commission earlier this year, includes building one and two-bedroom units at 5394 Nave Drive, with a second frontage on Marin Valley Drive.

The development is being designed by Blu Homes, a manufacturer of energy-efficient, precision-engineered homes. In addition to building housing for those who can’t afford to purchase a home, Homeward Bound offers a variety of programs for veterans, the mentally ill and runs a culinary academy and businesses to help people who are transitioning out of homelessness.

Tuesday’s meeting starts at 6:30pm at 901 Sherman Ave. Meetings can also be streamed online at this link.
