Novato Police Asking for Help in Investigating Officer-Involved Shooting

The Novato Police Department is asking for witnesses to the officer-involved shooting in Marin City to contact them as they continue their investigation of the July 7 incident.

In the shooting, a Marin County Sheriff’s deputy fired at a man after the suspect took off after being pulled over. According to one witness, the deputy fired eight to 10 rounds at the driver in an attempt to stop him from fleeing. The incident occurred shortly before 6pm near a park on Terner Drive filled with families.

The Sheriff’s Office says the deputy fired when the driver, who was known to have a suspended license, accelerated his car and tried to run the deputy down. Eyewitnesses say that's unlikely because the deputy's car was parked behind the driver.
