Novato Fire to Appoint New Chief

Appointment culminates turbulent six-month period that included a $6 million lawsuit tied to allegations against a retired former chief and his deputy.

The Novato Fire District's nearly six-month search for a new chief is apparently over.

The district will announce its appointment on Tuesday at a 6 p.m. Board of Directors meeting at Fire Station 61, according to the district's agenda, which it posted on Thursday night.

The hiring caps a turbulent period that followed former Chief Marc Revere's unexpected retirement in November.

The district in February paid out $251,695 to settle a $6 million lawsuit against the district alleging Revere and Deputy Chief Erick Nickel harassed, intimidated and retaliated against former Battalion Chief Michael Hughes.

The settlement included no admission of liability. Retired Marin County Fire Chief Ken Massucco has served as Novato's interim chief since Revere's abrupt resignation.
