Novato Costco Dished Out 3,148 Bags of Potentially Tainted Berries

The frozen berries are linked to 34 people contracting hepatitis-A, the Marin Independent Journal reports. No incidents of the disease linked to the tainted berries have been reported in the county.

The Novato Costco store sold 3,148 bags of tainted frozen berries linked to hepatitis A outbreak, the Marin Independent Journal reports.

The tainted berries have been linked to 34 cases of the disease in five states including California. Three cases have been reported in the Bay Area.

Townsend Farms on Tuesday issued a voluntary recall of the 3-pound packages of Frozen Organic Antioxidant Blend associated with the illness.

No cases of the disease linked to the tainted berries have been reported in Marin County, a public health official told the IJ.

Hepatitis A is a virus that causes liver inflammation. Symptoms of the disease include abdominal pain, fever, nausea, diarrhea and fatigue. It may cause Jaundice, a yellowing of the eyes and skin and dark urine.
