Going to S.F. Friday Night? Beware of Doyle Drive Detour

Crews will close the MacArthur Tunnel to work on the bridge between the tunnel and Doyle Drive.

If you’re heading to San Francisco on Friday night, you might be faced with a challenge getting back home.

Northbound state Highway 1 through the Presidio will be closed from 9:30 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday as part of the ongoing project to rebuild Doyle Drive, transit officials said.

Crews begin wrapping up work on the Ruckman Bridge replacement north of the MacArthur Tunnel on Highway 1. The closure will begin at Lake Street, just south of the MacArthur Tunnel on the southern edge of the Presidio.

Motorists will be detoured around the Presidio to Highway 101. Those heading to the Golden Gate Bridge and back to Marin County should consider taking Lincoln Boulevard through the western edge of the Presidio or Divisadero Street to the east of the Presidio.

The closure is weather dependent and could be delayed until Saturday night if rain falls, officials said.

Doyle Drive, a seismically unsafe portion of Highway 101, is being replaced with what is called the Presidio Parkway. The new roadway is expected to open in 2015.
