Introducing NPAT Corner

Novato Public Access Television invites the public to have voices heard.

"The only security of all is in a free press. The force of public opinion cannot be resisted when permitted freely to be expressed.”

— Thomas Jefferson

Our Founding Fathers were so concerned about “the voice of the people” that they afforded this vital concept its own amendment to the Constitution of the United States. Not the 7th, 8th or 9th amendment, but the first one, freedom of speech and of the press.

Today, Novato has it’s own version of “the voice of the people” and that is . NPAT strives to give the people of Novato a platform by which to tell their stories in an entertaining and informative way. At NPAT, a Novato resident can create his or her own TV talk show, or a documentary, or even a music video, using state-of-the-art digital equipment. NPAT provides ongoing classes in all manner of video production, so Novatoans can feel comfortable using the facilities and equipment.

NPAT has been in existence since 2000 as part of the cable access agreement with Comcast, and airs on channels 26 (public), 27 (government) and 30 (education).

Many Novato residents are familiar with NPAT broadcasting the Novato City Council meetings, school board meetings and Marin County Board of Supervisors  meetings, but the network is far more than that. With Rick Tucker at the helm as executive director since its inception, NPAT has won numerous awards for original productions and has helped produce hundreds of live TV shows on a regular basis. We encourage residents to continue to make it their network and we invite nonprofit groups to use the facilities as a voice to get their word out to the public about who they are and what they do. It is our mission to help them do so.

We would like to use this opportunity with Novato Patch to initiate NPAT Corner, a blog on which we will post timely and entertaining videos produced at NPAT by Novato residents as well as profile some of the video creators, interview board members, and continue to give “voice to the people” of Novato in novel ways.

I hope you will check in with NPAT Corner often to learn more about what’s going on with NPAT. I also hope you will give us a call at 415-798-5362 or visit our website at www.npat.org. We invite you to visit the new studio at Novato High — it’s really something to see because it rivals the best in TV studios anywhere with a dynamic “green screen” and digital effects all at your fingertips!

I look forward to your comments.

Sincerely,

Don Scioli

NPAT President
