The Mustangs (3-1) led throughout in their league opener at Redwood Saturday.  The defense was dominant holding Redwood to just 3 points and only 111 yards of offense.  Vince Cerruti got the defense going early with a nice interception to foil Redwood’s first drive.  From there, QB Manny Wilkins led the offense down the field before RB Quest Parham plunged in from 1 yard out to put the Mustangs up 7-0.  The Mustang offense slowed down a bit in the 2nd quarter, but came alive just before the end of the half as Wilkins ran in a QB draw from 11 yards out with just under 1 minute left.  K Jeff Walchli added a field goal as time expired putting the Mustangs up 17-3.  In the 2nd half, the defense game Redwood nowhere to go.  The front line including Jose Ochoa and Damon Moore put pressure on Redwood the entire half.  The Mustangs closed out the scoring with another Walchli field goal, and a Wilkins 43 yard TD pass to WR Vince Sbragia.  The Mustang ground game ran out the clock late with RB Kyle Chernoff (21 rushes – 101 yards) and Wilkins (15-74) leading the way.

This week finds the Mustangs taking on Tamalpais in the Homecoming Game.  Kickoff is set for 2 PM.

Junior Varsity Football

The JV’s (4-0) continued their undefeated season with a nice league opening win over Redwood.  It was a defensive battle as the Mustangs shutout the Giants 16-0.  QB Collin Moore and WR Dante Restivo hooked up on 2 touchdown passes. The defense had two safeties and an incredible goal line stand.  The Giants were on the one yard line with four chances to score, but the Mustangs defense responded to seal the game.  Through four games, the Mustang defense has only given up 13 points.  The defense has been led by Charles Ross, Cole Eyler, Adrian D'Arrigo, Manu Sogelau, Chance Cail, Josh Garcia and Cam Taylor.  The undefeated Mustangs take on Tamalpais this Saturday at 11:30 in the Homecoming Game.

Frosh Football

The frosh team came up short against Redwood Saturday morning in a game more noted for the heavy rain that fell than anything else.  No other information was provided.  The Mustangs (2-2) look to rebound this week against Tam.

Volleyball

Varsity- The Varsity squad went 1-1 during the opening week of MCAL play.  They girls lost a 3-0 decision at Redwood, but bounced back to sweep San Rafael on Friday at San Marin.  No other information was provided for the week.   The girls take on Drake and Marin Catholic this week.

JV – The JV’s lost two tough ones last week, but had some good play all around.  Wednesday against Redwood Briana Masarweh had 7 aces against the Giants.  Her serving gave the Mustangs a 5-0 lead to start the game forcing Redwood to call a timeout, but the Giants recovered to come back and pullout the match.  On Friday the Mustangs took on San Rafael.  After dropping the 1st set, the girls came back in the second set fighting. Hannah Fewell had an outstanding night offensively with the most kills on the team. Molly Lucey went on a big serving run to help win the second set. Unfortunately the Mustangs stumbled in the final set and the Bulldogs walked away with the 2-1 win.

Frosh- No information provided this week.  The girls take on Drake and Marin Catholic this week.

Water Polo – Boys

Varsity- The Mustangs opened league play with a 19-5 victory Thursday against San Rafael.  Over the weekend, the boys competed against some top competition at the California Capital Challenge where they won 3 of 4 games.  In perhaps the most exciting game of the tourney against a very good Lincoln team, the boys responded after falling down 4-0 in the first quarter.  The offense came to life as the boys found themselves ahead 10-8 with two minutes left.  Lincoln scored two incredible goals in the last 2 minutes to send the game into sudden death.  Lincoln capitalized on a power play and scored with the man advantage to win the game.
The team was angry but with that being our last game of the day and finishing early, we had good time to have some fun, relax and enjoy the rest of the day.  Earlier that day we beat Granite Bay 12-0.  The boys responded with back to back wins over Oakdale (13-3) and Ashland (14-8).

Over the weekend, goalie Ben Rosenbaum had 14 blocks against both Lincoln and Oakdale.  Offensively, Louis Campbell scored 22 goals, Ryan Campbell had 17, Will Hardman had 6 and Sebastian Bauer added 4.  Jimmie Fewell led the team in steals and assists for the weekend.

JV-  The JVs also competed at the tournament over the weekend.  In a split squad effort, the Green team lost to Nevada Union 9-5.  Shane Spencer had 2 goals, Dawsen Bacho, Colton Freemantle and Matt Iacovelli each contributed one.  The boys came back to beat Mira Loma 9-4 with Ross Allen getting 3 goals, Iacovelli and Bacho had 2 goals each, while Austin Thomas and Ben Breitenstein both had 1.  They closed the tournament out beating Encinal 12-1.  Steven DeBiasio had 4 goals, Bacho, Ross, and Conrad Raymond chipped in 2, while Austin and Jacob Fullman both added 1.

The Gold team lost to Dixon 8-6 with Justin Thompson getting 4 goals, Jack Duffin and Archer Leida had a goal each.  In game 2 they lost to Nevada Union with Jordan Kulp netting 2 goals.  Finally they tied Miraloma 7-7 with 2 goals from Robert Foster and Peter Hunt, while Ty Callihan, Kulp and Thompson each had 1.

Water Polo – Girls

The girls opened league play with a 10-8 win over San Rafael.  Jessica Iacovelli led the girls with 6 goals, while Kelly McCabe and Tanner Rhoades each added 2.  Goalie Hayley March stopped 7 shots for the win.

Soccer

The boys lost two close ones to Drake and Justin Siena this week.  They look to rebound against Marin Catholic and Novato this week.  No other information was provided.
