San Marin HS Sports Update February 25-March 1

San Marin Boys' Basketball team will host only the second ever CIF State Tournament basketball game in program history this Wednesday, March 6 at 7 PM vs. Casa Roble from Sacramento.

San Marin Sports Update Feb. 25 - March 2

The Mustang Varsity Boys’ Basketball team fell one basket short last week of playing for a 2nd NCS Championship in the last 3 years.  Their accomplishment was rewarded though by receiving an 8 seed in this week’s CIF State Basketball Championships.  The 8 seed gives the Mustangs a home game for only the 2nd time in school history.  The game will take place this Wednesday at 7 PM vs. Casa Roble (Orangevale).  Spring sports are also off and running as MCAL play begins for some teams this week.

Varsity Boys – The Mustangs as the 7 seed in the NCS Playoffs traveled to El Cerrito (3 seed) in the NCS Semifinals last Wednesday.  The Mustangs found themselves down 5, 29-24 at the half.  After a good start to the 3rd quarter, the Mustangs pulled to within 2, 44-42, by the time the quarter ended.  In a tense final quarter, the two teams traded baskets and the lead 6 times.  El Cerrito hit a 3 with 2:15 left to give them the lead back at 55-54.  The basket would be the last point scored by either team.  The Mustangs had several good looks in their ensuing possessions, but just couldn’t get the ball to drop.  Noah Everly’s last ditch shot with less than a second to go was off and El Cerrito moved on to the Title Game with a 55-54 win.

As a NCS semifinalist, the Mustangs qualified for the CIF State Basketball Championships though, and will play Wednesday, March 6, 7 PM vs Casa Roble at San Marin.  Casa Roble is led by the massive tandem of Sac State bound center Eric Stuteville (6’10”) and his brother Mason Stuteville (6’9”).  They also have an accomplished shooting guard in 5’11” Jess Baucum.  Casa Roble finished 2nd in their league and was a semifinalist in the Sac-Joaquin Section Playoffs.  They have an overall record of 24-7.  Doors will open at 5:30, gametime is at 7 PM.  A large crowd is expected so we recommend early arrival if attending.
