San Marin High Sports Update, Sept. 24-29

Homecoming Week has arrived as the Mustangs take on San Rafael this Saturday. Last week's results are in, as the Mustangs continue league play.

October arrives as does the playoff hunt for many Mustang teams.  With just a couple weeks left in league play, see how last week helped or hurt teams positioning.  Plus another good week on the tennis courts, another frosh volleyball tournament title, and Homecoming Week has arrived!

Varsity Football

The annual City Championship was hosted at San Marin this year.  The Mustangs took a quick 14-0 lead as RB D’Andre Wright took a carry around left end in for a 12 yard TD.  On the next possession, the Mustangs recovered a Novato fumble, which setup a 1 yard plunge from RB David Marinoff.  The Mustang defense held Novato scoreless in the first half behind the great line play of Chris Gorman and Jose Ochoa.  Unfortunately for the Mustangs, the momentum swung on a 60 yard interception and TD by Novato early in the 3rd quarter.  Novato finally got some offense going and scored two quick TDs to give them a 21-14 lead.  San Marin still had a chance as they got the ball back with less than 4 minutes to go.  QB Vince Cerruti came in for an injured Manny Wilkins and led the Mustangs down inside the Novato 20 with just under 40 seconds to go.  On the next play though, Cerruti’s pass was intercepted and the title went to Novato for a second straight year.

Frosh Football

The frosh boys moved to 4-2 on the season with a shutout win over Novato 20-0.  RB Keith Bradshaw found the endzone again.  QB Collin Moore moved the ball around well especially to WR Micah Martinson and WR Jeremiah Watts.  The Mustangs have a bye this week and will next play at Justin Siena.
