Playoffs have arrived! First up, boys water polo and girls tennis this week. Others are still hunting as MCAL play concludes this week.
The end of Marin County Athletic League play descended upon water polo, tennis, soccer and golf last week. Both water polo and tennis found their way into the playoffs, while several other teams wrap up play this week looking for a playoff spot on the horizon.

WR Jason Shannon had another big day catching 6 passes for 115 yards including a 50 yard TD from Wilkins. He also showed his receiving ability by catching multiple passes for long gains from QB Jeff Walchli. RB Dante Restivo once again shined, scoring on a 50 yard swing pass from Walchli. RB Christian Batres ran in two touchdowns near the goal line. On defense, Connor McGarty once again led the way. He forced a fumble that Dominc Alderete recovered and the Mustangs capitalized with a touchdown. Alderete also had an interception that led to a score in the first half. Eddie Ferrigno played solid at CB and Colin Lane was picked as defensive line coach Felipe Riley's 'Pop Tart' player of the game. Lane had two sacks and a couple of tackles for loss. The Mustangs close out the season at 11:30 on Saturday at Tam.
Frosh Football
The Mustang frosh lost a close 21-14 game against Redwood on Saturday. The Mustangs jumped ahead 14-0 as the offense was clicking behind QB Colin Moore, RB Jeremiah Watts, and WR Micah Martinson. The defense got huge games from LBs Weston Dunn and Cole Eyler. They play their final game Saturday at 9:30 AM at Tam.
Volleyball
Varsity- The Mustang girls set themselves up for 2 huge games this week if they are to make the MCAL playoffs. It starts vs 5th place Drake on Tuesday, and culminates in a do or die matchup against 6th place Justin Siena at home for the final spot. Last week, they helped their chances with a win over Tam 3-0 (27-25, 30-28, 27-25). Jenna Sudlow had 10 kills and 4 assists. Megan Franz added 12 kills, Kristin Robinson had 7, and Casey Cunningham led the Mustangs with 14 assists.
JV- The JV girls went 2-0 last week. On Wednesday they beat Tam 25-10, 25-8. Aziza Ramadan had 6 kills, Allie Kradepohl added 7 kills and 7 aces, and Olivia Murillo had 5 aces.
On Friday, the girls defeated Branson 25-13, 25-12. Allie Kradepohl had 5 kills and 5 aces, while Aziza Ramadan had 5 kills. The Mustangs, currently 6-4, look to close out the season with wins over Drake and Justin Siena.
Frosh- The SM Frosh hit a bump in the road in their match last week at Tam. They battled back from a slow start in set one and tied the score at 24 before losing 26-24. In the second set, they played better but so did Tam as they sealed the match 18-25.
Tyana Samuel, seeing extended playing time in both sets, passed well all night and Ariel Dunbar had 11 service points. Elise Styles and Molly Dwyer set well and combined for 13 assists. The final week of MCAL play finds them at Drake on Tuesday and at home against Justin Siena on Thursday.
Water Polo – Boys
Varsity- The boys waterpolo team will be moving on the MCAL Playoffs on Tuesday at 5:15 at Tam HS after winning both matches last week. It started on Tuesday as they beat Marin Academy 9-6. Ryan Campbell led the Mustangs with 5 goals, while Jimmy Fewell, Will Hardman, Daniel Hardman, and Louis Campbell adding 1 goal each. Louis Campbell had 7 steals and 3 assists, Fewell added 6 steals and 1 assist. Ben Rosenbaum had 9 blocks.
The Mustangs then wrapped up the # 5 seed with a win over Novato on Thursday. A loud and enthusiastic student section helped propel the Mustangs 10-7. The defense stepped up big, nearly shutting down the "hole" and limiting Novato’s top players all night. The offense got enough done scoring 10 goals, including 5 of them from Sebastian Bauer. Jimmy Fewell and Will Hardman added 2 goals each, and Louie Campbell added one. Ben Rosenbaum had 8 blocks.
JV- The JV boys closed out their season with a 12-1 win over Marin Academy. Jordan Kulp led the Mustangs with 3 goals. Ross Allen and Steven DeBiasio had 2 goals apiece. Vince Damazyn, Quinton Ashley, Shane Spencer, Ty Callihan, and Wyatt Tooley each added 1.
The defensive domination prevented MA from getting many any shots, but Wyatt Tooley and Justin Thompson in goal had 3 blocks and 2 blocks respectively.
Water Polo – Girls
The SM Lady Stangs finished off the season with decisive victories aginast Marin Academy and Novato. The games were strangely similar as MA was playing for a playoff berth and Novato was playing for its first win vs their cross town rivals. In both games a tight defense led by Patty Dougherty (who finished the season with over 60 steals) Tanner Rhoades, and Lydia Kao was anchored by freshman (and first year polo-player) goalie Hayley March. The offensive game plan was unselfish with girls swimming all over the pool, driving without the ball, and making stellar passes. Captain Jessica Iacovelli posted 11 goals in the two games to lead her team to victory and capture Marin IJ's prep of the week.
Tennis
The girls take on Justin Siena in the first round of the MCAL Team Tennis Playoffs on Tuesday at 3 PM at Napa Valley College. Next week the individual tournament will take place. Look for results of all events next week.
