San Marin High Sports Update Dec. 26-29

MCAL Basketball and Wrestling begins this week. Basketball opens Wednesday vs. Branson, and returns for varsity home openers Friday vs. Redwood. Wrestling opens on Thursday at Tamalpais HS.

Marin County Athletic League play opens this week for basketball and wrestling.  Last week saw the end of the non-league games and several teams competed in holiday tournaments.

The boys had their final tuneup on Saturday night against El Molino and wrapped up an 8-3 non-league with a 65-38 win.  The scoring was balanced once again as six players scored at least 8 points.  Noah Everly and Calvin Geraci both netted 12, Jason Reyff added 11, Shay Stubblefied and Nick Baxter dropped in 9, while Manny Wilkins had 8 along with 7 assists and 9 rebounds.  Vince Sbragia and Vince Cerruti combined for 4 steals as they pressured the El Molino guards into 15 turnovers.

MCAL play opens this week for the Mustangs.  On Wednesday, the boys travel to Branson (game is played at College of Marin).  Then on Friday the home opener arrives with a game against Redwood.  Both tip times are 7:30.

The JV Boys took 3rd place in the annual Paul Ferreboeuf Memorial Tournament ending the preseason 7-5.  They beat Healdsburg on night one, lost to Acalanes and then closed out Albany of the final day for the 3rd place finish.  The boys open MCAL play this week on Wednesday with a 4:00 game at Branson, followed by a 7:00 game on Friday at Redwood.

The freshman boys team closed out a solid preseason at 10-2.  They competed in the Drake Freshman Tournament last week.  The boys made it to the Championship Game but came up just short losing to Drake by 3.  The boys open MCAL play on Wednesday with a 5:00 game at San Marin vs. Branson, and then travel to Redwood for a 5:45 start on Friday.

The girls closed out an outstanding non-league session at 9-3 with a championship in the Beade-Meaney Tournament at Novato HS this past week.  The girls beat Wood in the title game.  Maya Stevens won the tournament MVP and Haley Nicolini dropped in 22 points in the title game to also receive all tournament honors.  The girls now open MCAL play Wednesday night at Branson (College of Marin) at 6:00, then take on Redwood in their home opener at 6:00 on Friday.

The JV girls open MCAL play on Friday in a 4:30 game at San Marin vs. Redwood, as Brason does not have a JV girls team this year.

The Frosh girls open MCAL play on Friday in a 4:30 game at Redwood, as Branson does not have a Frosh girls team this year.

The Mustang wrestlers open MCAL action with a tri-meet against Marin Catholic and Tamalpais at Tam HS on Thursday at 4:30.  The boys had a solid tournament season and look to have a good start in MCAL play.
