A friend just sent this over to me. It's a map of 2010 U.S. Census statistics that provides a fascinating look at the racial and ethnic patterns of the country.
There was no accompanying article, which is a good thing. After a week of non-stop media regarding every minutiae of the Aurora massacre, the local heartbreak of knowing our beloved state parks were being helmed by crooks, while our elected officials were clueless, and the presumed fact that nothing but additional taxes will save the day in California — it's fun to twiddle around the country and see the changes in the demographic landscape since 2000.
You can create your own story, be it positive or negative, red or blue, or somewhere in between. For me, it reinforces the fact that America is a big, diverse mass of textures that needs reuniting with the simple stick of American value: economic opportunity. When that is taken away from us, by whatever ideology, no matter what our color or language is, we are just shades of blue or yellow on this map, nothing more — and a great deal less.
