Two local teen girls, Allie Hoch and Elizabeth Ruiz, talk about the Marin Teen Girls Conference, set for March 3 at the Embassy Suites in San Rafael.

Two beautiful local teenage girls were the guests of the program filmed for an upcoming production of “Sounding Board,” a weekly program on . Madalienne Peters, professor at Dominican University and long-time member of Soroptimist International of Novato, was the host and moderator of the show. (This time I volunteered being the camera person as part of the crew, learning once again ways to volunteer with my upcoming retirement.)

Allie Hoch of San Rafael High School and Elizabeth Ruiz of were special guests talking about the Marin Teen Girls Conference. Both Allie and Elizabeth have worked with the Marin Women’s Commission as ambassadors working behind the scenes in planning, organizing and marketing the conference on Saturday, March 3, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Embassy Suites Hotel, San Rafael.

Keynote speaker Lateefah Simon is a Bay Area civil rights leader and was named to Oprah’s first “Power List” in 2009.

Both girls overflowed with enthusiasm for the previous Marin Teen Girls Conference, how much they gained by attending and how excited they were for the upcoming conference. Topics covered are building healthy relations, confronting drugs, building connections, building community, dealing with peer pressure,  overcoming eating disorders, and developing a positive self image.

“The concept of girl-to-girl bullying came out of a focus group produced by the Marin Women’s Commission and initially inspired the Marin Teen Girl Conference,” stated Kris Cirby, treasurer of MWC, whom I found back in the production booth watching the production of the show.
