Soroptimist Luncheon Program: Genealogy

Susan Trumbull is a guest speaker for Soroptimist International of Novato on Wednesday, February 5. She will share her knowledge and passion of genealogy.

The popular TV program "Who Do You Think You Are?" discovering the ancestors of various celebrities has sparked interest in viewers about their own ancestors ... but where and how to start?

Your ancestors are more than just a list of lifeless names and dates on a chart somebody gave you.  They made a huge difference in who you are, and still do!  Susan Trumbull will share with you how she went from knowing next to nothing to learning stories and finding treasured heirlooms that could fill a whole episode on TV!  This journey can be one of the most intellectually stimulating, absorbing and fulfilling ways you will ever find to spend your valuable time.  She will hopefully infect you and help you start on your own journey....on Wednesday, February 6, noon, as soon as you get home!

Susan Trumbull has lived in Novato since 1969, when she married Attorney John Trumbull. Becoming interested in her family history while still in her teens, she joined the Marin County Genealogical Society in 1983.  Since then she has served on the board many years in several capacities including President.  She has taken many research trips back East, to England, Wales, and to the "holy grail" the Family History Library in Salt Lake City.  Susan worked for the Chamber of Commerce for several years in the early 1990s where she was in charge of the Novato Leadership Program soon after its inception, following Ed Sharp.  She and husband, John Trumbull have both been busy volunteers at the Novato History Museum.  Susan ran the 3rd Grade Docent Program for nine years. She is still a docent, but now she prefers the job of Witch at the Halloween Open House there.  History, Family History and grandchildren are her present passions...and sharing them with others.
