Marin Medical Reserve Corps Could Use a Hand

This volunteer group is ready for immediate emergency action whenever existing systems are over capacity.

If you are looking for an exciting and rewarding volunteer experience, this may be it!

Christine Erlach, RN, and Katherine Shotwell, MBA, RN, were my guests on Sounding Board, the weekly television produced by Soroptimist International of Novato, and they presented the concept of the fairly new MMRC.

Marin Medical Reserve Corps began in 2006 as a national need to get medical volunteers organized as a reserved unit for Marin County.  Currently there are about 900 Medical Reserve Corps across the U.S.  The Marin organization has more than 400 volunteers, and it is the largest volunteer group in the county. Watch this video and learn how you can also be involved as a volunteer.  Don't worry if you have no medical background, because for each medical person in the corps there is a need for at least five support individuals.

The organization is ready to supplement any kind of medical emergency when existing systems are over capacity.   Everything is organized in a central-down communications style called incident-command system.
