Barbara Madrid, an impressive retiree working with the Friends of the Marin County Free Library, manages Novato’s shop called . She is also a club member of Soroptimist International of Novato. The Soroptimist SOUNDING BOARD program on decided to turn the camera inward to interview one of its own club members — Madrid — about the Friends of the Library, which is on a path driven to raise funds for the local public library.
The Book Place is at 1608 Grant Ave. and is open daily. Books are gladly received as donations, which are then resold at low prices to the public. Many hard working volunteers help staff the store keeping it open seven days a week. Volunteer opportunities are available which include sorting new inventory, shelving books, and storefront selling. Even just three volunteer hours a month are a wonderful gift to the libraries. Email mcflFriends@pacbell.net for details about volunteering.
You can also join the Friends of the Library, which provides you with a newsletter, advanced notice of sales, and information about volunteer opportunities. Check out MarinLibraryFriends.marin.org as it shares upcoming sales, key issues facing the library, store hours, and volunteer contacts.

Both Barbara (the interviewee) and Fredda (the Interviewer and our Sounding Board co-chair) are unpretentious; but they see a need and not only do they fill the need, they make tremendous improvements in the process, all through their volunteer work. And Carole (our past president) is doing the same, before her retirement this year, and more so now that she has retired.
