Last Chance - Growing up in Alcatraz - Join Soroptimist International of Novato for a Fun and Informative Luncheon! 10/02/13
Join members of Soroptimist International of Novato, a group of professional and business women, at our special annual membership meeting for a great speech, fellowship, and explore volunteer opportunities for the betterment of girls and women, both locally and globally.
On the heels of the 80th anniversary of the federal penitentiary on “The Rock”, a.k.a., the Alcatraz Island, we invited Mary Marvier and her sister, Jeannie Comerford, to come and talk about their experience of growing up in Alcatraz. Mary “spent more than a decade on Alcatraz when it was a federal penitentiary, and she loved just about every minute — it was her home. When she was mere weeks old, her family moved from Pennsylvania so her father, James Comerford, could take a corrections officer’s job on the island. It would be her home for the next 12 years until the family moved off Alcatraz in 1954.”
Prepaid Reservation is required. Please call membership chair, Sylvia Barry, at (415) 717-0293 or email Sylvia (Sylvia@SylviaBarryRE.com) with your questions.
