LEFT COAST DEPOT=THE BEST LEMON BLUEBERRY PANCAKE EVER! Must try!
    CLKO April 02, 2013 at 09:36 PM
We've just discovered the soups and daily specials at Left Coast; really delicious. We also love Chianti, Tuscany Grill, Aurora, and then there's the fish and chips at Finnegan's-pretty great with that homemade tarter sauce! All of these restaurants support our community and our schools, which makes them extra great!

I love Grazie. They aren't doing anything that hasn't been done before, but I regularly meet my best gals there for GNO (girls night out). The staff is always friendly and the meals are balanced and flavorful.

Hands down, #1 is Marvins ......
Susan Wreden April 02, 2013 at 11:08 PM
My vote is for Left Coast Depot, best breakfast, lunch and dinner. Extremely yummy special pancakes, eggs benedict, pulled pork, burgers, salads and the best soup ever!

It is absolute insanity that Hilltop is not on this list. If you're talking about the best food in Novato, Hilltop's clearly one of the best, if not the best. Also extremely good, and kind of nuts that they're not included: Boca and Grazie. Other strong contenders include Rustic Bakery, Left Coast Depot, Chianti Cucina and Tuscany Country Grill.

To have a list of the ten best...you cannot leave off Marvin's..... Both Boca's and Chianti Cucina.
    NovatoResident April 03, 2013 at 02:28 AM
totally disagree. Left Coast Depot should be at the top of this list.

I think the yelp list has just been debunked.

Top Ten in Novato is a non sequitur !

Google " yelp extortion video " to see how yelp really works.
Susan Levin White April 03, 2013 at 05:14 AM
None of our faves are on that list. Masa is our favorite. And where is Boca??? Thumbs up for Mi Pueblo, too, and Finnegans. If Batika moved in where Kitchen was, it was yummy and I'd definitely go back there. Had a superb breakfast at Left Coast two weeks ago...definitely going back there. Does Redwood Bagel count as a restaurant? Do not trust yelp.

Wait, forgot the only place I liked when I first moved here from NYC 14 years ago: Tagliaferri's!

There are a few on the list I've never heard of despite living in Novato for over 13 yrs. Also a few on the list I can't stand, I guess it's a matter of taste, lol. I do really like Arun though. Lots of flavor. It just needs WAY better customer service. The main waitress always sours our experience. I also really like SushiHolic, Boca Pizzeria, and one that is not on the list, Jennie Lows Chinese (because their food is always so fresh and not greasy like typical Chinese).

    Totally agree!

We enjoy dining once a week locally so we can walk Old Town with our dogs and enjoy our lovely town. Our downtown "rotation" is Mi Pueblo (terrific all around with great food at excellent prices served by friendly staff, AND the best carnitas in town!), Grazie (Take Me to Napa Salad), and Chianti (Papardelle Carbonara and Angela & the whole wonderful staff!). We used to enjoy Wild Fox. Aside from the elimination of my favorite, lamb shank & mushroom risotto, our last experience there (last year) was the most unsatisfactory meal I believe I had ever had. I was distressed as I used to love it there. We have enjoyed the food at Hopmonk, especially the med-rare burger and love the roasted beet salad. Chao Praya, best Thai. Taki for Sushi (we miss Henry at Yu Shang...) Love my turkey & Swiss sandwich from Italian Delight. And the ham & cheese croissant at Rustic Bakery. So reading my choices, I guess I go where I know I will consistently find the comfort foods I like best.

Oh, Aurora! Thanks for reminding me...had a fabulous dinner there!
Novato Native April 04, 2013 at 07:01 AM
Finnegan's because it feels like home and the owners always welcome you with open arms! Tag's for my sandwhich except I do miss this one perky sandwhich master from years ago (she had reddish hair and was a big fan of those rainbow bears-lol). Mexican food was definitely Fernando's Nachos with extra cheese and jalapeño when pregnant but you can't beat the rest of the menu and setting at the one by Novato Builders ..Las Guittaras. Paradise Foods has become an amazing place to eat now that I am trying gluten free and whole grain etc... Boca, musci's and the Sushi place in the shopping center by Boca are all great. I do miss Cacti, Capra's and Walter at Villa Roma (couldn't beat the price of a slice, ranch and soda on break in high school or the second job he always seemed to have for you when you needed the extra cash. So, in part I say I love the food but more in importantly I appreciate the sense of community and support and friendly atmosphere these businesses have provided over the years! Thank you!

And oh yeah..,left coast? Where ever you are Iudt find you! You sound absolutely amazing!
Novato Chess Club April 04, 2013 at 11:59 AM
    Arun is excellent
Novato Chess Club April 04, 2013 at 12:02 PM
Left Coast is excellent---we love the "Healthy Tacos", soups, and service is outstanding....Best beer lunch is Moylan's on Wednesday!
Mrs Sarge April 04, 2013 at 04:22 PM
Marvins, Rickeys, and WildFox. Ever since Golden Omelet changed to Left Coast it is the WORST! If you want breakfast you go to Marvins. Try their chicken fried steak- the best. Moylans has been a favorite for years but their food is not as good as it use to be, we don't go there any more. Rickeys is great for dinner during the summer. The kids can swim while you relax and enjoy some wine before dinner :-)
Novato Chess Club April 04, 2013 at 04:23 PM
We love Marvin's and Rickey's too

    Steve B April 04, 2013 at 05:31 PM
Do what Craig said, and realize how subjective Yelp is. All this top ten list is is a list of the suckers who paid Yelp. Obviously from previous comments, people know the real top ten with or without Yelp.
Beth Stein April 05, 2013 at 02:19 AM
I agree about Marvin's. however Novato has crappy choices. Anyone eat in San Rafael? San Jose? SF?? The few decent places on Novato get boooorrrring. If you've lived here any length of time you have to leave to get good food
    honu April 05, 2013 at 10:34 PM
This list obviously is directed to the Yelp audience and Yelp should "qualify" this list by saying so. No Boca? No Hilltop 1892? No Finnegans? No Boca Pizzeria? No Marvin's? No Jenny Low's? No Toast? And, please, can anyone explain why we have so many Italian restaurants and pizzerias? You need to survey people who like a variety of cuisines, both expensive and inexpensive and in-between.
Novato Chess Club April 06, 2013 at 05:42 PM
I definitely will try the restaurants on the list---
David Randolph April 07, 2013 at 06:52 PM
Why would anyone want to set foot in the Days Inn for any reason?
David Randolph April 07, 2013 at 06:53 PM
Muscios has all the ambiance of a U.S. Army cafeteria.
