Winery Exchange Acquires Two Brands

Novato-based company adds certified organic and sulfite-free brands to its roster.

Novato-based Winery Exchange recently announced the acquisition of a portfolio of certified organic and sulfite-free wine brands, according to a company press release.

The company — a wholesaler without a tasting room or retail store  — markets more than 300 products from worldwide beer, wine and spirits manufacturers.

In addition to wine category leaders, Our Daily Red and Orleans Hill, the acquisition includes several private brands that also feature organic certification and contain no sulfites.

Our Daily Red and Orleans Hill join the California-sourced Echelon brand and the Italian brand Ogio in the Winery Exchange National Brands Division.

“Two years ago we made a commitment to build a distinctive portfolio of nationally distributed wine brands," CEO Peter Byck said. "The addition of these sizeable, category-leading brands demonstrates that commitment. We’re excited by the growth opportunities presented in the organic food and wine categories and believe we have partnered with two principals who are true pioneers in organic wine production.”

Company co-founders Tony Norskog and Donn Berdahl will continue to be actively involved in wine production, distributor and account management and consumer communications, the company said.

“Donn and I come from a farming, wine-production background and feel Winery Exchange is the right partner to help move organic wines deeper into broad market distribution where we have been seeing growth the last few years," Norskog said in the release. "Improved distribution is the key to promoting more acres of organic agriculture and that is in everyone's interest. We have a tremendously loyal consumer following and sought out a partner who could help us grow the business and continue to serve our existing consumers.”

Already in national distribution, Our Daily Red and Orleans Hill will be marketed and managed by the Winery Exchange National Brands Division of national sales manager Chris Jones along with regional managers.

“We are excited to have the opportunity to lead this category and significantly grow our division," Jones said. "The team is looking forward to working with Tony and Donn to bringing these brands to the next level”.

The company was founded with the intent of blending extensive industry expertise with cutting-edge business practices. The result is a dynamic, fast-growing company poised to take advantage of new trends in the beverage alcohol industry.

Zepponi & Company, the global wine industry mergers and acquisitions advisory firm, served as the exclusive financial advisor to Nevada County Wine Guild and negotiated the sale to Winery Exchange.
