What's Your Favorite Coffeehouse?

For this week's Readers' Choice contest, we ask you to pick the best place to hang out and enjoy your java.

You have a couple of minutes before work and you failed to properly caffeinate before you left home. Where do you stop for a piping-hot treat?

You are meeting a friend for a chat, and that friend suggests a place for a latte and snack. Where do you meet?

You need to get out of the house and get some work done on the laptop or relax and thumb through the New York Times. Where do you crash land?

In this week's Novato Patch Readers Choice, we ask you to pick your No. 1 spot among the city's coffee and tea houses.

Here are the nominees for this week. As always, if we've missed someplace, please tell us in the comments and we'll add it ASAP.

Note: We left out Marin Coffee Roaster's drive-thru location on Novato Boulevard and the Starbucks inside the downtown Safeway because they aren't really places to hang out and relax.

Have fun showing some love for your favorite spot, not only with a poll vote (one per reader, please) but by leaving a great review and a positive rating on its Patch Directory page. Just click the highlighted names to see the directory page for each place in the contest.

The poll goes away after a few days, but the positive reviews and ratings stay forever — plus they count heavily in the contest judging. So if you love one (or more) of our contestants, be sure to leave a rating and a review.

And if you own or manage one of the businesses in our contest, be sure to "Claim" your listing; this allows you to customize the information that appears on our site, and to thank your loyal customers for the five-star ratings they give you.

Because this poll is not scientific, it is not the sole consideration in choosing a winner. The winner will be determined by the Patch editor, based on poll results, comments and reviews on the listings in our directory. Leave reviews for as many listing as you wish, but please vote only once per survey, per Patch. Complete contest rules are attached.

Here's your chance to tell share your recommendations. Vote in our poll and then visit the listing and give it a star rating. We will reveal our contest winner on Friday morning, so keep tabs on the Readers Choice contest all week long.

Voted for downtown Peet's as I do tend to go there the most, but Dr. Insomnia's scuffins are incredibly delicious.

I don't know of a coffee place in Bel Marin Keys, do you? Somebody else asked me that today.

Downtown Peets. I love to see people before their coffee- so laid back, relaxed, and courteous that you wonder how they could be so mean in traffic a few minutes later.

La Boulange didn't make the list but should of.
Brent Ainsworth (Editor) May 16, 2012 at 04:19 AM
The list was meant to be just coffeehouses. I see La Boulange as a restaurant first, don't you? Lots of restaurants serve really nice coffee drinks.

Dr Insomnia! *Support local small business* You can get Starbucks and Pete's anywhere in the world...nothing special.

Downtown Pete's without question!

Anybody remember that coffeehouse at the Square called Massimo's? I liked it. Too bad it only lasted about a year.
Sara Oser May 17, 2012 at 03:29 PM
I had a great cup of regular coffee at Dr. Insomnia's the other day and drank it outside at a little table below a redwood tree. I also enjoy the coffee at Whole Foods Bakery, people watching. Flour Chylde is a beautiful little place to ponder your coffee while feeling like you are in Europe.

Dr insomnia is the best because it is local business supporting downtown Novato The coffee and muffins are made with love and care

Interestingly I would bet most of the people who support dr insomnia actually spend more money at Starbucks
