What's the Best Burger Shop in Town?

For our weekly Readers' Choice survey, pick a favorite from among Novato's restaurants that make a great hamburger.

There are few things people feel more strongly about than their favorite burger. From grass-fed and Kobe beef to turkey and veggie, people love burgers of all stripes, and Novato has a diverse burger landscape.

But which your favorite?

That's the question we're posing in this week's edition of our Readers' Choice series.

Here are our nominees for this week's Reader's Choice contest for best burger in Novato. We've skipped the higher-end places that don't necessarily showcase hamburgers and skipped the bigger fast-food chains. If we've missed a great local burger on the list below, please tell us in the comments and we'll add it ASAP.

Have fun showing some love for your favorite spot, not only with a poll vote (one per reader, please) but by leaving a great review and a positive rating on its Patch Directory page. Just click the highlighted names above to see the directory page for each place in the contest.

The poll goes away after a few days, but the positive reviews and ratings stay forever — plus they count heavily in the contest judging. So if you love one (or more) of our contestants, be sure to leave a rating and a review.

And if you own or manage one of the businesses in our contest, be sure to ; this allows you to customize the information that appears on our site, and to thank your loyal customers for the five-star ratings they give you.

Because this poll is not scientific, it is not the sole consideration in choosing a winner. The winner will be determined by the Patch editor, based on poll results, comments and reviews on the listings in our directory. Leave reviews for as many listing as you wish, but please vote only once per survey, per Patch. Complete contest rules are attached.

Here's your chance to tell share your recommendations. Vote in our poll and then visit the listing and give it a star rating. We will reveal our contest winner on Friday morning, so keep tabs on the Readers Choice contest all week long.

Boca Burgers are the best!

I agree they are awesome there, but in this little survey we're not including the city's top dining establishments who just happen to serve burgers. We're basically looking for burger joints and pubs.

Marvin's has the most amazing burgers, fries and shakes. You just can't beat it for reliability. The recipes have been handed down from owner to owner with each new owner adding a few innovations of their own. The owners Chuck and Nicole are wonderful people. The quality of the food they serve along with how it is grilled makes it really, really good. I noticed it gets lots of stars on yelp but one person complained about price. I can tell you all the prices went up in local restaurants when California increased the costs associated with workman's compensation. Any business using employees that are here legally and on the books will have to pay through the nose just to cover their workman's compensation fees. The Spanish omelet with toast, hash browns and fresh orange juice for breakfast and the cheese burger, fries, salad and shake for lunch will make you keep coming back forever.

Not a burger joint or pub OR what they are known for , but California Grill has the best burgers in my opinion.

Brent: What about Sam's on Redwood? They have an amazing home-made Turkey Burger!

Ghiringhelli and California Grill added to the poll by popular demand.

I enjoyed many a fine burger out there on the Miracle Mile. The Novato burgers are not half as good as the originals. RIP Phyllis!

Wow, Moylan's slipping to third place? They have always taken great pride in that Moylander burger!

Remember that positive reviews on the business listings for these places is the No. 1 criteria for determining the winner.

It's the happening place on Grant Avenue and most of Novato. The best burgers, wedge steak salads, and old and new friends. Keep up the good work. Marilyn Figone Fraser

On my comment, I neglected to name the restaurant. Finnegan's of course Marilyn Figone Fraser

I agree about Marvins. Unfortunately I've tried that place several times and have gotten an upset stomach from all the grease.

Marin Joes . Nothing compares. Not in NOVATO.Worth the drive
eve harris June 01, 2012 at 04:42 AM
Aint that the truth!! Nothing compares to Marin Joes. But in Novato I definitely say Finnegans

I know this is off topic, but California changed the name to Workers' Compensation in 1975. After workers' comp reform (SB 899) passed in 2004, insurance rates declined considerably (along with the benefits paid to injured workers for their permanent disability).

Cannot have a burger without a beer, and a ballgame---Moylan's is tops---
Steve B June 05, 2012 at 03:19 AM
Finn's and Moylan's are the safest bets in my book. California Grill seems to char things too much making them taste bad and maybe carcinogenic??? Phyllis' may make a tasty burger, but there seems to be a lot of sanitation issues there. From fermenting catsup to filthy seats with homeless people camping out, the place scares me a little bit. If it weren't for Sponge Bob on the wide screens, I'd never go. Anyhow, back to actual "best burger," yeah, Finn's and Moylan's hands down.
